The lovely newkidfan made me cover art for my Supernatural fic Dirty Tactics and it's absolutely wonderful!
Seriously the more you stare at the "black" part, the more you see. The abandoned buildings of the base, the monkey bars, the fences... and I just love the flashlight beams crossing and lighting different places in the dark, with John and Dean as shadowy figures behind them. Just wow! :D

Okay, I just finished reading "Whys and Wherefores," the last volume of Y: The Last Man and ( major spoilers )
Next up is "The Good Prince," volume 10 of Fables. I am quite looking forward to Ambrose's story.
Speaking of comics, I have been enjoying The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay so far. I LOVE the idea of the Escapist, especially. I was enthralled in the chapter about his backstory. I love stories about telling stories. Sigh.
I feel like I had other things to say, but all of it was driven out by the ending of Y.

09:48 pm - Twentieth and Twenty First Shows - Sound of Music and Wicked
Since these shows had different casts to last time i figured I wanted to write about the difference.
First up yesterday I went to the matinee of Sound of Music. It was pretty much an entirely different cast to the last time. Since Connie Fisher left she was replaced by Summer Strallen who is most famous for her role in a soap here but is actually from a big musical theatre family and has been doing shows herself for years. But they also kept the alternate Maria doing Monday nights and Wednesday matinees. The alternate is Aoife Mulholland who was a runner up on How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria. She was actually one of my favourites from that show and when she got cut fairly early on the producers of Chicago called her and immediatly offered her the part of Roxie so before Maria was cast she was already in rehearsals for a major show. After Connie started having vocal problems Andrew Lloyd Webber waited till her run in Chicago was up and kept her on for 2 shows a week plus holiday times. As much as I liked Connies voice I loved Aiofe's performance. She had a great voice and more importantly could act and had a great rapport with the kids. A lot more so than Connie did. This was the first time i'd seen her in a lead role but she was also handpicked by the producers of Chess to join the 21st Anniversary performance with Idina Menzel and Josh Groban. As for the rest of the cast the kids were adorable, I actually liked the guy playing Rolf a lot more this time and Amy Lennox as Liesl was again great. We had the Captain Von Trapp understudy so i didn't get to see Simon Bourke again but he wasn't too bad.
Last night i followed up the matinee with the evening Wicked performance. Wow... okay i thought i liked it before but last night it blew me away. I'd heard some mixed reviews of Alexia Khadime who is the new Elphie. I don't know if it's just been a month so she's settled into it now but she is the best Elphie i've ever seen. She was amazing. The difference between her and Kerry is there was a lot of growth that she showed that Kerry usually doesn't. Kerry tends to start of snarky and get a little more of an attitude from there till she eventually gets to the pissed off Elphie point. Alexia starts off hopeful, then starts trusting people at Shiz, until she meets the Wizard and snaps a little. By No Good Deed you believe she is actually Wicked which is more than I can say for some of Kerry's. Now it could just be that Kerry is too comfortable in the role cause she has been playing her for two years. As great as she is it just feels like she's playing it safe sometimes whereas Alexia was more edgy and cool. So yeah it made it the best performance i've seen and completely changed the show for me. So very glad I saw it again before i left.

This is an original song based on big_pink's superb fic Fire in the Hole.
It is set pre-series, right after Sam leaves for college. It is Dean's POV -- he is talking to John in the first verse, and Sam in all the rest.
You don't have to have read the story to understand the song (though I strongly suggest you do so for your own pleasure and literary experience)... alls you needs to know is that Dean and John are in western Nevada investigating some silver mines, Dean fell and got hurt and misses Sam and calls him and leaves messages and John won't discuss Sam's departure. And it's sad for Dean.
This song is number 4. The player takes a moment to rev up (don't we all).
